It’s an all new That Real blind Tech show Super Cool Brian Only Demo.
Join Brian as he discovered how to use your number keys 1 to 9 in Google Chrome for your favorite bookmarks like you can do in Safari.
Brian first shows you how quickly you can add a reminder to Microsoft To Do List on the Mac. And the great thing Microsoft To Do syncs across all devices.
Brian discusses his reason from finally switching from his long time main browser of safari to Google Chrome, and of course it is all related to A.I., and the amazing work you can do in Google Chrome with Claude CoWork that you cannot do in Safari. Because of stupid privacy concerns most likely.
Next Brian dives in to discussing how he learned you can set up an app specific shortcut on the Mac, and this includes changing your 1 to 9 keys to use with command option choose your number and a favorite bookmark. Just like you can do in Safari except it takes a little work setting it up in chrome and Mac settings the first time.
He quickly walks you through exporting all your bookmarks out of safari and why you now want to be very careful when you do this. He then talks you through going to chrome bookmarks Manager where you will import all your safari bookmarks in to chrome.
Brian shows you how to edit the name of a bookmark to make it short and easier to work with as you will need to type the full name of the bookmark in to keyboard settings Shortcuts exactly how it appears in Chrome for all of this to work, and of course copy and paste does not work when doing this.
Next up he walks you through Settings, getting to Keyboard, then Keyboard shortcuts where you will create an app specific shortcut. In this step in the side bar, you do not want to select keyboard shortcut, you want to select application shortcut then click the add button and we go from there.
He then shows you how to set up your bookmark and the key command for the shortcut to launch the bookmark in chrome.
One disclaimer for this, which you will see in the demo, some times the first time you set up a bookmark, it doesn’t take, so just do it again, as Brian demos. It will work if you are typing everything correctly in to the Bookmark name field.
And if you pay close attention when Brian first tries to set up his shortcut for Innosearch, he screws up and selects Gemini as the application not Google Chrome, so obviously that is why setting up this shortcut did not take the first time. He is being to lazy on a Friday to go back and fix this and rerecord it. As you can just do setting the shortcut over again.
It’s all so simple even a dummy like Brian can do it when he actually selects the correct application to map the shortcut key command to.
